Advent devotion: Window shades
One task I remember my grandmother attending to each morning was lifting up the window shades. The sunshine brought warmth, providing light to plants that sometimes wintered inside. Today’s sunshine has brought out the crimson color in the burning bush leaves as they glisten under fresh snow. When piecing fabric together, I find that I sometimes need more light to help guide my hand when stitching. We do need a good source of light to guide us in many tasks we approach daily. The light brings clarity to the many things we would miss without it.
Recently I sought guidance in helping myself see through some dark moments I was experiencing in my life. The life journey had taken a wrong turn and I was stuck in a muddy rut.
Remembering a prayer that I had spoken at various times now seems to be a lifeline: “Lord may your light shine upon my path that I may see.”
During my counseling sessions a new perspective developed. A healthier more balanced manner to view things was reached. It was as if the window to a very dark room had been opened.
From the book of Luke, Zechariah sings about a dawn that will break upon us, it will guide our feet into the way of peace.
With the Advent, I am thankful to this “dawn on high,” for the grace and mercy revealed, and for the guidance of others who are trained to assist others in difficult times.
I am thankful that light has come into my life once again to shine on my path, the faith walk. I give thanks that I was willing to lift the “shade” and to do the work needed, allowing the light of Christ in.
Lord I ask that your guiding light shine upon the path I walk.
