Emergency Go-Bags

News | October 28, 2025

Inspired by a National Public Radio story, St. Paul has created ’emergency go-bags’ for congregation members. Many patients arrive at hospitals without essential items like identification, insurance cards, medication lists, or contact information. Since most phone numbers are stored digitally rather than memorized, a dead phone can leave vulnerable seniors isolated from their support networks.

The red and black emergency go-bag should be stored near the front door for quick access. Essential items include extra clothing, toiletries, glasses, and personal comfort items. A folder within the bag should include copies of driver’s licenses, health insurance cards, Medicare information, prescription plans, and advanced directive or healthcare proxy information. This helps medical staff provide appropriate care quickly. To receive your own emergency go-bag, contact Teresa Keller, teresa@stpaulqc.org.
