Spreading light
Much like many of you, my Apple playlist hasn’t moved too far away from playing Dolly Parton songs since her death a few weeks ago. Dolly was an entertainer rooted in faith, humility, and unbounded grace. She walked through the world with a ‘God-centered heart’ (her words) that shone through her music, her philanthropy, and the effortless warmth she extended to every soul she met. Her faith wasn’t flashy or judgmental. She said her faith was a quiet anchor, expressed through kindness, joy, and a wide belief that everyone deserves love. That authentic spirit is precisely why her light resonates so deeply across generations, and with me.
For me, that connection feels profoundly personal. When my mom created her bucket list, visiting Dollywood was right at the top. Making that trip together became one of the last cross-country journeys we shared, and it turned into an indelible, core memory.
Walking through Dollywood wasn’t just visiting an amusement park. We felt like we were stepping directly into the heart of Dolly’s values. You could feel her influence in every corner: the gentle reverence for mountain heritage, the uplifting Gospel melodies echoing through the air, and the genuine hospitality of every person we encountered. Sharing those moments with my mom was a profound gift. Watching her smile, feeling the quiet joy of that place, and soaking in the beauty of the Smoky Mountains is a memory I won’t soon forget.
Dolly Parton reminds us that living a faithful life means spreading light wherever you go. Being a beacon of positivity and love in a world that feels otherwise. Her legacy inspires us to love unconditionally, serve generously, and always shine on with grace.
