Application process

St. Paul seeks to identify and call up to two talented seminary graduates for this two-year residency experience. Pastoral residents begin their two-year term call at St. Paul in late August of a given year.

Seminary students in their senior year, or recent graduates who are candidates for ordained ministry, are eligible to apply for the program. Primary consideration will be given to those who show promise as future leaders of the Church. Interviews are conducted once all materials have been received.

Applications

Applications are due by January 31, 2024. A letter of interest and resumé should be sent to the program administrator. Applicants who are selected for the program will be notified by February 2024. The administrator will contact all applicants at that time.

Salary & benefits

Candidates will interview for a two-year (non-renewable) call. Each pastor in the program receives a full-time salary and benefits commensurate with ELCA standards. All program costs and supplies are covered. Living expenses and housing arrangements are the responsibility of the resident pastors.

Synodical connections

St. Paul works closely with the candidates and the synodical bishops of the ELCA to ensure ordination. Exciting placement opportunities for second call are explored during the final six months of the two-year residency. Candidates may be linked with their home synod of candidacy during the two-year residency.

Warm Embrace

St. Paul understands the importance of a warm embrace for each pastoral resident, and for the interests and concerns of a spouse, partner, or family that may accompany a pastoral resident.
