Madison Market
After more than ten years, Madison Market completed its final pantry on Tuesday, July 23.
After conversation and discernment among the Madison Market team and St. Paul leadership, St. Paul made the difficult decision to end the partnership with River Bend Food Bank and the Davenport School District, who are moving toward a new school food pantry model. This conclusion was made with a heavy heart, but we look forward to new endeavors where St. Paul can continue to support the surrounding neighborhood and community.
“Early on, we were taught that ‘hungry children can’t learn’ and took that to heart. Our shared goal was to strengthen the family, which in turn would strengthen the child,” Madison Market coordinator Dana Welser said. “It was a real joy to watch this pantry grow from serving 35 families in the basement of Madison Elementary School, to providing quality food (and so many other items to meet daily needs) to 145 families throughout the Davenport community. We have been so grateful to serve the community and school district.”
To all those who served Madison Market in any capacity – thank you. Thank you for your time and efforts, for the opportunity to serve, and to honor and care for those in our community who need a little extra support.
